Lovely Songs from Home
You may be away for Valentine’s, or you’re on your honeymoon, and luckily, you packed your iPod with you, love songs from home. Of course you wouldn’t want just love song 1, or love song 2 – there’re bound to be the really good ones, the ones that, deliver exactly the message you’re trying to bring, without being too sentimental, or mushy.
Here are a few nice songs to pack on your lovely getaway.
Morissey – The More You Ignore Me (The Closer I Get)
For when you’re trying to win over someone stubborn. Morissey (along with The Smiths) may as well be the precursor to emo, but he knew when he was sad, and most of his songs are melancholic, with a mix of hope just peering through the glass.
D’Sound – People Are People
This is a song for those who are slowly receiving the lovin’ they deserve. “I am the one/ who’s parallel, upfront, behind” — just like how love is, sometimes you need to position yourself correctly for that loved one. Be there when that person needs you, and that person will be there when you need them.
Alicia Keys – Diary
For that confidant, for the one true person for whom you would gladly keep secrets for.
Zero 7 – Pageant of the Bizarre
This demonstrates the enduring quality of love, the one we find in our ideal partners. For when we say, “you’re like no one I’ve ever met,” we really mean it.
The Weepies – Gotta Have You
The soft guitars on this folk-ish love song about wanting just the one is enough to help you persist through anything. “No amount of coffee/ No amount of crying/ No amount of whiskey/ No amount of wine/ Nothing else will do…”
